Our privacy policy contains important information about what personal information we collect about you, why we collect it and what we do with it. It also contains information about your personal privacy rights. Respecting your rights and looking after your personal information is very important to us. We will keep it safe and we will never sell your personal information to any third parties

Who We Are 

We are The Salon International Ltd, also known as Art Salon International, an online art gallery to represent and support artists and generate income for the gallery as a viable business concern. We also create residency opportunities and fund where we can in order to help artists and arts organisationals throughout the world. We seek to promote the finest contemporary art in the UK and overseas, through regular exhibitions and events. We are a company registered in England and Wales, number 10801970 and our registered office is Haarlem Artspace, Haarlem Mill, Derby Road, Wirksworth, DE4 4BG. For the purposes of the GDPR we are a data controller

Personal information we collect

The personal information we collect about you may include:

name, title and gender
email address, phone number, postal address, billing address, delivery address
product selections and purchases of goods or services
bank details for payments (if you are an artist/suplier)
details of correspondence sent to you, or received from you in any format
Any other information provided by yourself to us

We’d only ask for sensitive personal information where we have a valid reason.

How and why we use this personal information

We use this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service. We may use the information to improve the service we offer you. We will send promotional emails about new exhibitions, events or other information which we think you may find interesting using the email address which you have provided.

From time to time, we may also use your information to contact you by e-mail for market research purposes. We may use the information to make the website more appropriate to your specific interests. We will never share your details with anyone else except where we may have to disclose your contact information to trusted product/service suppliers and carriers so that your order can be completed. How we collect personal information

We collect personal information that you may provide when you:

buy products through our website or at art fairs/exhibitions etc.
sign up to our email newsletters and/or following the Art Salon International social media platforms,

We collect information about the services you use and how you use them, such as when you visit and shop on our website and when you view and interact with our emails, advertisements and content.

Information from third parties…
We will not gather information about you from third parties such as Aweber, payment and delivery services, advertising networks, analytics providers, etc.

Information via our website…
When you visit our website we collect technical information including the internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer or device to the internet, as well as information about your visit to the website. When you visit our website, cookies, small files stored on your computer help us to know who you are, remember what you’ve looked at and liked, and makes using our websites better and easier. We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. If you are under the age of 13, please do not provide any information to us. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under the age of 13, we will make commercially reasonable efforts to delete such information from our database.

Why we are allowed to process your personal information

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) requires us to have one or more lawful grounds to process your personal information. We consider the use of personal information as set out in this policy is a legitimate business interest and the processing of personal information is reasonably necessary to pursue that interest. Our legitimate interests are set out under Who We Are: an art gallery with the purpose of representing and supporting artists and to generate income for the gallery as a viable business concern via Art Fairs and e-commerce website. However, we rely primarily on consent, which you provide by opting in to our mailing lists and pro-actively providing it in other ways – for example, completing a written request to be included on our mailing lists

Some processing may be necessary so that we can fulfil a contractual relationship we have with you (for example if you purchase something from our online shop) or because there is a lawful or statutory requirement to process information (for example to share it with our regulators). Generally, we will rely on your consent to process your personal information and to send you marketing communications via email.

What we share with third parties

We will only share your personal information with our service providers where it is necessary in order to fulfil a valid, stated purpose, or contract to carry work out on our behalf and improve your experience. Examples of our Information Processors include Aweber, who deliver our e-mails and Docmail, who manage our printed direct mail. These service providers are acting as Information Processors on our behalf as the Information Controllers. They are also required to comply with the GDPR, ensuring that they are also committed to the security of your information. We would only disclose your personal information if we were legally required to do so or –  when we believe in good faith that the law requires it.

Communicating with you

We will communicate with you if you have engaged with our e-commerce capability and this will be separate to e-mail marketing messages. When you have given us a contact email address and your confirmed consent (e.g. you have opted in) we will contact you for marketing purposes via email. These marketing communications include new exhibitions, new work by artists and occaisionally links to new blog posts we think you’ll find of interest based on your relationship with us.

Our email marketing communications uses Aweber which tracks the effectiveness of our communications with you, including when a message is delivered, opened and how many links are clicked within the message. This is to help deliver more relevant e-mails in future.

If you have provided us with your postal address we may send you direct mail – exhibition invitations and catalogues – unless you have told us that you don’t want to receive such information via this channel. You can change your direct mail marketing preferences at:

How we keep your personal information safe

We follow strict security procedures in the storage and disclosure of personal information to keep it secure. We aim to ensure any transfers of information are done securely, in accordance with best practice and in compliance with data protection laws. We at The Salon International are committed to respect the confidentiality of your personal information.

The security of your information is important to us. When you enter sensitive information (such as a credit card number) on our payment forms, we encrypt that information using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. However, please note that despite our best endeavours we cannot guarantee the security of personal information transmitted via the internet.

How long we keep your personal information

We will remove your personal information from our records if you unsubscribe from our mailing list or if you request us to delete your name and address from our direct mail list. We remove you from our mailing list if you appear to cease engaging with our e-mails, in order to avoid you receiving unwanted communication.
